April 9, 2026 – According to comprehensive foreign media reports, the Indian Ministry of Steel has announced an exemption from mandatory Indian Standard requirements for three specific stainless steel flat product standards: IS 6911, IS 5522, and IS 15997.
The exemption applies to imported goods with a bill of lading date on or before September 30, 2026. Normally, these materials require a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
The Indian government has introduced this flexible measure to help industry address supply shortages, while domestic production of 200-series and 300-series stainless steel continues to increase.
